Overview
The GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER is NVIDIA's revised high-end Ada Lovelace card, launched in January 2024 to replace the original RTX 4080 at a reduced $999 MSRP — a $200 drop that significantly improved its value proposition. It offers slightly higher performance than the card it replaced while undercutting it on price.
It shares the same 16GB GDDR6X memory configuration and 256-bit bus as the standard RTX 4080, but with a wider shader processor count and marginally higher clock speeds. Third-generation RT cores, fourth-generation Tensor cores, DLSS 3 with Frame Generation, and hardware AV1 encoding are all present. Power draw remains in the same ~320W envelope as the original.
The RTX 4080 SUPER occupies the sweet spot for enthusiast 4K gaming, offering near-RTX-4090 performance at a considerably lower price. It suits buyers who want the Ada Lovelace high-end experience — including Frame Generation and capable ray tracing — without the premium commanded by the top-tier card.
