Overview
The Radeon RX 9070 is AMD's mid-range RDNA 4 card, sitting below the higher-clocked RX 9070 XT in the RX 9000 lineup and succeeding the RX 7700/7800 class of RDNA 3 products. It represents AMD's push to bring the RDNA 4 generation's architectural improvements to a broader audience at a $549 price point.
The RX 9070 ships with 16GB of GDDR6 memory — a generous allocation for its tier — and incorporates RDNA 4's second-generation hardware ray tracing, which delivers roughly double the ray-tracing throughput of RDNA 3. FSR 4 provides machine-learning-based upscaling for supported titles, and full AV1 hardware encode/decode support is included. The card operates within a 220W TDP.
With 16GB of VRAM and strong mid-range raster performance, the RX 9070 is well suited for 1440p gaming and capable of handling many 4K titles with quality settings adjusted. It appeals to buyers who prioritize VRAM headroom and AMD's open ecosystem — including FSR compatibility across a wide range of games — at a price below the high-end tier.
