Overview
The GeForce RTX 3060 8GB is a later variant of the RTX 3060 line, released after the original 12GB version to address a lower price point within the same product family. It uses the Ampere architecture and succeeds the RTX 2060 from the Turing generation.
Compared to the 12GB model, it pairs a narrower memory bus with 8GB of GDDR6, which reduces memory bandwidth noticeably. It retains the full Ampere feature set — 2nd-generation RT cores, 3rd-generation Tensor cores, and DLSS 2 — and its 170W TDP is identical to its sibling. Buyers comparing the two should be aware that the 12GB version generally holds a memory bandwidth advantage, which can matter in texture-heavy scenarios.
The RTX 3060 8GB targets mainstream 1080p and entry-level 1440p gaming. It is a practical choice for gamers who prioritize DLSS-assisted frame rates and occasional ray tracing over maximum memory capacity.
